From Dec 8, 2011  The 1st Aussie player in CFL may happen in 2012!

Wow! I'm obviously excited about this possibility. Scott Crough from Australia is on the Calgary Stampeders negotition list.

A tweet tonight from current NFL Lions punter Ben Graham the former excellent AFL Australian Football League Geelong Cats player.  "@sdcrough thanks mate. Keep following your dream mate. I hear the CFL calling " from @bengraham7

I 100% believe the Australian Rules Football "drop punt" (end over end kick) would be a advantage in the CFL. The punter could even hold onto the ball a bit longer, run around a bit then do a accurate drop punt to the desired position.

Current Stamps punter Burke Dales is a free agent in 2012. He may price himself out of the Stamps punting job! Hopefully Scott Crough is at the Stamps camp competing for the job!

Here is the Oct 25 article on TSN.ca by the very respected Dave Naylor http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=378893

This is very interesting from the article. Any player who has never played North American football qualifies as a "Canadian" or non-import in the CFL.

Part of the article by Dave Naylor
Football is not a game with a lot of options for recruiting international athletes. But some CFL teams are investigating a trend that has been unfolding the NFL where teams have auditioned punters from Australia. Two NFL teams currently have Australian punters (Washington and Dallas) and earlier this year, there were a total of four on NFL rosters. The bonus for CFL teams is that any player who has never played North American football qualifies as a "Canadian" or non-import in the CFL. Saskatchewan and Calgary are the first two CFL teams to have added Australian punters to their negotiation lists.

And the guy the Roughriders are hoping to bring in here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zf-1XPG9v0w

I was talking about Scott Crough being a good chance for the CFL last night on Sports Rage with Gabriel Morency.

Thurs Dec 15, 11 "From Wed Dec 14. Watch and listen now! I'm on Sports Rage with Gabriel Morency talking NFL Broncos, CFL, AFL, Lingerie Bowl, about Sports Rager Clam Chowder and the New England Clam Chowder meaning, concussions in sport and more sports and life craziness!

To watch and listen now refer to Dec 15, 2011 "Mates Club report" http://mykaussie.com/MykMatesClubJakeDelhommeRobDibble.htm

From twitter today!

"Happy to announce I have signed a two year deal with the Calgary Stampeders in the @CFL..Exciting times ahead!!" @sdcrough

A press release from ProkickAustralia.com
http://prokickaustralia.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/Scott-Crough-Calgary-Stampeders-Press-release-Prokick-Australia-Press-Release-February-12-2012.pdf

I'm waiting to here more details from Scott. I'm assuming Stamps won't be resigning Burke Dales seeing he is a Free Agent asking for/tryng to get a better contract and they also like what they see in Scott.

From Google+ today. Check this out!

"Yeh! Now the NFL and CFL fans can see exactly why we have Aussie punters in the NFL and in 2012 the CFL if Scott Crough makes the CFL Stampeders.

Some of the great AFL and VFL torpedoes from the game's stars such as Blight, Fletcher and Thomas.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yz4tGU2CePU

The "torpedo or screw punt" we call it is not used anywhere near as much in Aussie Rules Footy these days as it was 15+ years ago. The "end over end drop punt" is used 95% of the time when kicking as it is way more accurate. Thus another reason why the "end over end drop punt" is now used in the NFL (brought in by Aussies in the NFL) and now also used by some USA born NFL punters.

More distance however is gained by a nice "torpedo screw punt" but if it doesn't work properly it is frowned upon in Aussie Rules Footy as it will drop way short of the target or it will go way off target as we see in the NFL and CFL if a bad punt happens.

Here are CFL/AFL kicking contest/fun TotalCFL TV shows that I had with Duncan O'Mahony the 2001 Grey Cup punter for the Stampeders. http://www.mykaussie.com/stream_files/play_videoTotal-CFLwebTVDuncanStampeders.asp

Watch now! Yeh! Scott Aussie is on the CFL Stamps McMahon Stadium field! Alright a lefty as well! The accurate drop punt/end over end kick will definitely be a advantage to Scott in the CFL as there is way more punting than in the NFL!

I just heard that Scott was released by Stampeders after suffering a back injury. He is now obviously not happy, he is packing and returning to Australia.

I still look forward to hearing about his 7+ day experience at Stamps training camp and whether he will continue to try and get a punting job somewhere.
