Welcome Back, Richie!
« on: February 01, 2011, 06:23:15 PM »
Richie is back as Defensive Coordinator of the Roughriders. I hope he has more success.

We'll probably go back to a more standardized defence as opposed to Etch's defence which, according to a player with whom I spoke, was based on percentages and required every member of the defensive team to buy into the scheme.

I hope Richie has some success, but I think we'll need some additional personnel to grow success, especially on the defensive line.

There's something that just feels a little right with the world having him back in Regina.

From a competitive standpoint, I'd be just as happy if he had landed nearly anywhere else, but this is a man that it's just really hard to wish him anything less than what he wants.

It will be interesting to see if he eventually gets another shot as a head coach.  While the team didn't succeed under him in Edmonton, and the buck has to stop with the HC (as Richie often said himself), he coached through a tremendous amount of adversity and will likely have learned a lot that he'll be able to put to use in the future.

I wish him the best of luck... off the field.

As an Eskie fan I can say that Ritchie did infact get a bum rap taking on such a toxic environment here in Edmonton.  However add to his poor record in Double E land the fact that he was passed over what like six times and you have to wonder if he falls in the catergory that some people are head coach material and some are teriffic position or coordinator coaches.  I think Ritchie deserves a second chance to be the head man but I would only imagine his leash to be short when he does.

Good luck Ritchie I hope you do well in call games other than the ones against The Green & Gold
